As I write this letter it reminds that the summer is coming to an end, so that must mean it's time for our new 2007 – 2008 season to begin.  To start the following dates of our regular meetings are: 19 November 2007, 4 February 2008, and 24 March 2008.

There are to be 3 more planned events that are not covered by the annual renewal fees.  The extra events are the traditional member/wives – guest dinner to be held early May 2008.  Our ever popular members' cook will be held summer 2008. And an informal automobile and wine pairing schedule in October with wives/guest.

Dave Felton, PW&FS Wine Cellar Master, has thought that we should whet the appetites of our members a bit by noting some or our recent wine purchases.
  • Kistler chardonnay – the Dutton Ranch 2005
  • Flor de Pingus 2004 from Peter Sisseck’s Ribere del Duero old wine tempranillo Vineyards (a "97" from Parker)
  • "The Boxer" shiraz 2006 and "Blue-Eyed boy" shiraz 2006 both from Mollydooker Owners from powewrful Aussie wines – Sparky & Sarah Marquis
  • Baumard Coteaux du Layon "Cuvee Ancienne" various vintages dating from 1966 to 1988.
Of course, there will a few small changes to our wine inventory (subtractions and additions) as the year goes on!

Dave states further as our own representative to the Board of Governors of the Americas (BGA): a member to both longer-tenured and our many newer members, our Pasadena Wine & Food Society (PW&FS) is a chapter within the International Wine & Food Society (IW&FS). As a member, we partake of a number of valuable benefits including hard-to-find liability insurance coverage; a beautifully-produced quarterly newsletter (Wine, Food & Friends) with coverage of news, events and tasting ideas from all over the Americas; an informal and ever expanding website (www.iwfs.org); And eligibility to participate in international wine & food festivals at lovely locations around the world.  The BGA governs the largest of the three IW&FS regions around the world and recently held the 2007 international festival in Santa Barbara.  133 guests from nine countries gathered for five grand days.  Several of our own members took in the local event.

That’s for now.  I look forward to our new season.

President
